Edmund Park Adventure Education is one of Queensland's largest and longest operating providers of Outdoor Education and Recreation services. The City of Geraldton is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join its Parks team. Reporting to the Parks Manager, this position is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and supervision of the development and maintenance of the City's horticultural, arboricultural and streetscape programs.

The successful applicant should have considerable hands on and supervisory experience, be customer focused and have the ability to program, monitor and review development and maintenance programs relating to the horticultural field.

A salary of $43,134 to $46,683 per annum is offered (Level 4/5), depending on experience.

As a member of the Carnarvon workcentre team organises and implements management action on lands and waters managed by the Department of Conservation, other crown lands (including Unallocated Crown Land) and reserves to ensure nature conservation and visitor service outcomes are achieved.

Selection Criteria:
Essential:
1. Understanding and experience in nature conservation and visitor services management. Including planning, coordinating and implementing of works programs, preparing budgets and completion of work programs within approved budgets and time frames.
2. Demonstrated capacity to work constructively and effectively, both as part of a team and independently.
3. Demonstrated effective interpersonal, negotiation and liaison skills.
4. Good verbal and written communication skills including competence in report writing.
5. Demonstrated physical fitness (must be able to pass departmental field fire fitness test), willing and able to spend periods of time working and camping in remote areas.
6. Knowledge of threats to nature conservation and wildlife values and measures required to ameliorate those threats.
7. Competence in word-processing, spreadsheet and database software.
8. Awareness of occupational health, safety and welfare principles.
9. Awareness of EEO principles and practices.
10. Current "C" Class Motor Vehicle Drivers License.

Desirable:
1. Degree or diploma relating to biological sciences and/or land and resource management.
2. Knowledge of arid land ecology, rangeland management and land tenure issues.
3. Knowledge of CALM and Wildlife Conservations Acts and associated Regulations.
4. Experience and skills in management of volunteers.
5. Experience in law enforcement.
6. Experience in vegetation, landform and fauna surveys.
7. Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal people and some knowledge of their culture.
8. Skills with computer databasing and GIS systems.

Temporary position (7 months)

Are you interested in turning ideas into clear instructions, working with others, and thinking about outdoor recreation? The Heritage Appreciation Unit in Head Office is looking for a person with experience in recreation management planning and/ or statutory planning for a period of seven months. You will be working with a senior planner primarily undertaking tasks associated with planning for and commencing the drafting of Conservation Management Strategies (CMSs). This will require the development of guidance for consultation, and researching and drafting standard text for use in a CMS.

To be successful you will need a good understanding of the concepts of outdoor recreation management, and some experience in statutory planning. Good writing and communication skills will be needed and you will be expected to work closely with other departmental officers during the course of this work. Some travel around New Zealand may also be necessary. There is the option for flexible work hours if this is required.

Wilderness and Remote Area Emergency Response Training - an essential experience for those working, living or playing in wilderness or remote locations.

These training courses are scenario-based with a strong emphasis on the development of practical, life-saving skills and confidence supplying first aid and establishing on-going care in wilderness and remote areas.
